Henrik Stenson’s choice to join the LIV tour has caused the golf world to react.
One of them all: World star Max Homa.
His mocking answer to the Swede has gone vitally.
In recent months, many players have chosen to make the move to the LIV tour, which competes with the PGA and European tours. But no one has faced as much criticism as Henrik Stenson.
Saw huge
Despite the fact that superstars such as Phil Mickelson, Sergio Garcia and Dustin Johnson have chosen to play on the newly launched and controversial tour, it is Stenson’s change that has received the most attention. The reason is that Stenson was named captain of Europe’s Ryder Cup team next fall, but with the change he has lost the title.
The LIV tour has been criticized by, among others, Amnesty as “sportwashing”, as it is financed by Saudi Arabia in what is said to be an attempt to wash away the bad reputation it has around, above all, human rights. Henrik Stenson is said to receive half a billion (!) kroner in pure bonus just for playing on the new tour, and many in golf now believe that LIV’s signing of the Swede is a pure attack on the Ryder Cup, which is one of golf’s most prized competitions.
The mockery of the star
Henrik Stensons himself has explained his decision that he thinks the project is exciting in a long announcement that was published on his social media. However, the explanation has received a lot of criticism, and many believe that Stenson is only making the change for the money. And it’s not just supporters and golf fans who react – but also players.
Max Homa is one of the world’s best players, and just a month ago he won his fourth event on the PGA Tour. He responded to Stenson’s post on social media with a famous meme, which reads:
“I don’t read all that stuff. But I’m happy for you. Or sorry that it happened”.
This can be translated directly into Max Homa not caring one bit about Stenson’s explanation – and that he is tired of the explanation.
At the time of writing, Max Homa’s post has received over 65,000 likes on Twitter, which is an indication that many people agree with him.
