Erdogan introduced his party’s vision of “Turkey’s Century” yesterday. The world press carefully followed the speech of Erdoğan, who gave important messages about both the election agenda and the long-term process. One of the most striking points in Erdogan’s speech was his words about the Hagia Sophia Mosque.
PRESIDENT ERDOĞAN: IT IS A GREAT CHALLENGE TO OPEN AYASOFIA AS A MOSQUE
In his speech, Erdoğan reminded the opening of the Hagia Sophia Mosque with these words:
“We stood by everyone in this country, supported his struggle, compensated for his losses. Even the fact that we reopened Hagia Sophia, which was only the dream of generations, as a mosque in accordance with Fatih’s trust, is a great challenge against global tutelage.”
Erdogan’s statement was one of the details that the world, especially the Greek press, was locked up.
“ERDOĞAN PROMISED BETTER DAYS”
One of the leading press organizations in Greece, Kathimerini newspaper carried Erdogan’s words “I will build Turkey’s century” for its headline. While the sentence “Erdogan promised to make his country one of the greatest in the world” was included in the news, “Erdogan promised better days to Turkey after June 2023 with his 2071 vision”.
AYASOFIA HIGHLIGHT
Enikos news website, in its news about Erdogan’s speech, used the expressions, “Recep Tayyip Erdogan made new provocations by referring to Hagia Sophia in his extravagant event called Turkey’s Century, organized by his party AK Party in Ankara.” The headline of Enikos emphasized Erdogan’s words, “The fact that we have reopened Hagia Sophia as a mosque is a great challenge against global tutelage.”
“REFERENCES TO HAYASOFIA AND MESSAGES TO GREECE”
Greek news website “in.gr” presented its news on the “Turkey’s Century” speech with the headline “Recep Tayyip Erdoğan: Turkey’s century, references to Hagia Sophia and messages to Greece”. “ERDOĞAN IS CHALLENGE”
On the other hand, The Standard newspaper quoted Erdogan’s speech as “Erdogan is challenging: the 21st century belongs to Turkey. We have reopened Hagia Sophia as a mosque”.
