According to reports in the Italian press, the efforts to find the six people who went missing on the luxury yacht named “Bayesian”, which was reported to have sunk due to a storm, have yielded results since Monday.
The Italian Coast Guard’s underwater search robot and Italian firefighters’ divers, as a result of their search efforts at a depth of approximately 50 meters, first removed two bodies, one male and one female, from the wreckage of the yacht today. It was stated that the bodies removed belonged to British billionaire businessman Mike Lynch and his daughter Hannah.
Following Lynch and her daughter, teams located and removed the bodies of three more people from the rubble. It was noted that the bodies would be identified and autopsied.
THE YACHT CAPTAIN WAS QUESTIONED
Thus, the number of those who lost their lives in the incident increased to 6, including the cook Recaldo Thomas, whose body was found on the first day.
It was reported that teams continue their search for the last missing person in the wreckage of the yacht.
According to reports in the Italian press, the missing persons include Jonathan Bloomer, the chairman of Morgan Stanley International, and his wife Anne Elizabeth Judith Bloomer, as well as Lynch’s US lawyer Chris Morvillo and his wife Neda Morvillo.
Meanwhile, it was reported in the press that the captain of the yacht “Bayesian”, 51-year-old James Catfield, was questioned for 2 hours yesterday evening as part of the investigation into the incident.
While press reports questioned how such a luxurious yacht sank in such a short time, it was stated that at least two of the ship’s doors were left open during the storm and water could have easily entered through there.
THE SINK OF THE LUXURY YACHT BAYESIAN
The luxury yacht named “Bayesian”, anchored off the coast of Porticello, 20 kilometers east of Palermo, Italy, sank during a storm at around 05:00 local time on the morning of August 19.
With the help of boats in the region, 15 of the 22 people on the “Bayesian” were initially rescued, the body of 1 person was found, and 6 people were reported missing.
While the public prosecutor’s office in the city of Termini Imerese launched an investigation into the incident, it was reported in the press that a team of experts and inspectors from the UK had also arrived in Sicily to investigate the incident. (AA)
