According to reports in the Italian press, monkeypox virus was found in a person who came to Rome from Spain’s Canary Islands.
It has been stated that the Italian Institute of Higher Health (ISS) has created a special task force consisting of experts to monitor the situation in Italy related to the monkeypox virus.
It was noted that the Ministry of Health also warned local health authorities in the regions about monkeypox cases.
‘EVERYTHING UNDER CONTROL’
Anna Teresa Palamara, Head of the ISS Infectious Diseases Unit, told ANSA agency, “There is no alarm situation in our country at the moment, everything is under control.” she said.
Italian Health Minister Roberto Speranza, who was in Berlin, the capital of Germany, for the meeting of health ministers of the G7 countries, stated that they approached the issue with great care, thanks to both national and European observation networks.
VIRUS ALARM WAS ALSO GRANTED IN SPAIN AND PORTUGAL
It was announced that monkeypox, a rare disease caused by an endemic virus transmitted from monkey to human in Central and West Africa, was detected in 8 people in Madrid, the capital of Spain, on May 18.
It was confirmed that the virus was first seen in one person in England on May 7 in Europe, then it was stated that this virus was seen in 5 people in Portugal on May 17, and 15 people were taken under surveillance in suspicious circumstances.
In the USA, it was stated that the first case of “monkey pox” (monkeypox) virus of 2022 was seen. It was reported that the virus was seen in a man who had recently traveled to Canada.
In monkeypox, the most common symptoms are skin rash and blisters, fever, back and muscle pain, swollen lymph nodes.
