It was reported that 27 warplanes belonging to the People’s Liberation Army of China (PLA) entered the area that Taiwan declared “Air Defense Identification Area” (ADIZ).
In the statement made on the official Twitter account of the Taiwan Ministry of Defense, it was stated that 6 “J-11”, 5 “J-16”, 16 “SU-30” warplanes entered the part of the air defense area in the southwest and the middle of the Taiwan Strait.
In the statement, it was stated that the planes were warned by radio and followed by military patrol planes and air defense missile systems.
It was noteworthy that the flights coincided with the controversial visit of Nancy Pelosi, Speaker of the US House of Representatives.
The ministry reported yesterday that 21 Chinese warplanes had entered ADIZ.
ADIZ, which has no definition in international law and is not supervised by any international authority, is generally declared unilaterally by countries. The identification area does not include civilian aircraft that do not intend to violate, however, military aircraft entering the area are warned by evaluating the potential threat.
On October 1, when the anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China was celebrated last year, and in the following days, China’s entry to the region declared ADIZ by large numbers of planes increased the tension in the region.
Taiwan’s Ministry of Defense reported that 38 fighter jets entered the air defense identification area on 1 October, 39 on 2 October, 16 on 3 October and 56 on 4 October.
The flights on October 4 marked the largest number of aircraft detected in a single day since Taiwan began keeping records in September 2020.
It was observed that the number and frequency of flights decreased from the beginning of 2022, with the Russia-Ukraine War on the agenda.
After US President Joe Biden’s remarks on “military response if China attacks Taiwan” during his visit to Japan on May 23, 30 warplanes entered ADIZ on May 30.
PELOSI’S VISIT CAUSED BEIJING IN THE REGION
The plane carrying Pelosi and her delegation had arrived in Taiwan last night. The visit, which has been speculated about for two weeks and caused tension between the USA and China, drew the reaction of Beijing.
The Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in a statement right after Pelosi’s plane landed in Taiwan, declared that it condemned the visit, and the Ministry of Defense announced that it would hold “a series of military exercises” around the island. (AA)
