The world champion fails at the final boss – Now Faker could miss the Worlds 2024

Things are not looking so good for the reigning world champion T1 and its top player Faker in 2024. The top South Korean team has already missed three chances to qualify for the Worlds in League of Legends. Now they have one more chance, otherwise the 2024 Worlds in LoL will take place without the reigning world champion and their star player.

How did T1 qualify for Worlds? South Korea has 4 spots for the Worlds, 2 will be distributed through the normal league and 2 through an elimination tournament, the Regional Finals:

The safest way is to win the LCK Summer Split, but T1 only came third. Hanwha Life won.

The other way is to simply be the best team in South Korea over the year and qualify via Champions Points: But Gen G. managed to do that, with our Lord and Savior Chovy and Canyon being extremely strong this year.

There was now a playoff for third place between the third and fourth placed teams in the league, between T1 and DK. T1 was actually the clear favorite to win the match. But the final boss was waiting: Showmaker.

Showmaker seeks out Faker

How did you miss the second to last chance? T1 actually went into the match on September 12th as the clear favorite.

While DK is no longer the team they were in 2020 when they became world champions, with Canyon in the jungle and the outstanding BeryL as support, they still have midlane star Showmaker and proved to be too big a hurdle for T1.

Showmaker entered the scene in 2017 and was considered the next big star in LoL. In 2020, he actually won the Worlds and in 2021 he came second. Since then, however, his team has fallen apart – Chovy is now considered the legitimate successor to Faker in the role of the strongest mid laner.

Showmaker is individually one of the strongest LoL players ever.

Showmaker in particular put in an impressive performance in the mid lane and bot laner Aiming also did well against Gumayusi.

Ultimately, the decisive Match 5 went clearly to DK with 15 to 6 kills.

Faker had a chance here, but in the end it wasn’t enough:
