The World Bank and the French development cooperation agency AFD are giving Uganda, located in Central Africa, EUR 540 million to develop the infrastructure and waste management of the capital Kampala.
The World Bank and AFD announced the matter on Thursday.
Kampala residents have long complained about the poor condition of the roads and poor waste management. Last month, at least 35 people were killed when a residential area was buried under a landslide on the outskirts of the capital.
The lion’s share of the aid – 510 million euros – comes from the World Bank, and most of it is given in the form of loans.
