The woman wanted to leave violent husband – was killed

Police and ambulance were called to an apartment in Vingåker at lunchtime on Friday.

A woman had been found lifeless at the scene and when the rescue mission arrived, it was quickly assessed that her life was beyond saving.

– She was found dead at the scene, says District Attorney Adolf Moberg Oleszkiewicz.

According to information to TV4 Nyheterna, the woman had been beaten to death. The violence was so severe that the mother of many children could not be identified at first.

The woman’s husband, also in his 50s, was in the apartment and was arrested for the murder. He was taken into custody this weekend on the higher level of suspicion, probable cause.

– He denies any crime, says Adolf Moberg Oleszkiewicz.

The man and the woman have been married for just over five years. And the police already have a documented history of violence between the couple.

– The relationship has been marred by abuse and threats, says a source to TV4 Nyheterna.

The woman has reported the husband to the police several times and patrols have moved out to their joint home. But each time, later in the investigation, she has wanted to withdraw the report and not participate in the police case.

The prosecutors have been able to lead two cases to prosecution, even though the woman backed down and stopped cooperating with the police.

Backed from the investigations: “Has misogyny”

In one case, the district court announced its verdict in the fall of 2021. The husband was sentenced to a daily fine of a total of SEK 2,000 for minor abuse of the woman, an incident that took place in the spring of the same year. The woman then called the police and reported that her husband had punched her. According to the woman, the reason for the attack was that she did not pick up an item her husband told her to pick up, but told him to do it himself.

The woman told the patrols that “it didn’t turn out at all as she had imagined” after they got married. She said that the man had hit her “on several occasions before” and that due to the visible injuries she had to stay at home and could not go out.

The woman also said that she would seek help from the crime victim helpline and that she would apply for a restraining order as she “is afraid of him, because he beats her both outside and inside.”

But when the police were to continue investigating the incident at the station, the woman had time to back off. She also withdrew her application for a restraining order. A policeman who happened to see her at a store a little over two weeks later tried to get her to start participating in the investigation.

– NN (the woman) says that she can’t stand a lawsuit and that (the husband) said sorry, they are friends again. I explain to (the woman) that she has been appointed a plaintiff’s attorney who can help her in the legal process. (The woman) says firmly that she does not want to talk to the police about this and states that she does not intend to come to the police questioning, says the policeman in the investigation.

The prosecutor used the woman’s first police interview as evidence against the husband when he was convicted.

Recently threatened: “I’ll kill you next time”

The prosecutor brought the second charge recently. Documents obtained by TV4 Nyheterna reveal that the woman reported the man for assault on two occasions this summer. These suspicions were dropped but the man was charged with a case of assault and aggravated unlawful threats that took place at the end of October. The man then allegedly delivered several blows to her body and face, and then placed a pair of scissors against her neck.

– He said “I’ll kill you next time”. I don’t know why he’s going to kill me next
walk. I haven’t done anything, the woman said in questioning.

The woman stated that this time she would participate in the investigation. She also applied for a new restraining order.

Since the violent incident and until the trial, the man was in custody as it was considered that there was a risk that he would otherwise continue to commit crimes. However, the exposed woman chose to stop participating again and did not appear at the district court hearing.

In the police investigation, there was testimony about the woman’s fear, including that the husband is “angrier than before now”. Both the police and social services made several attempts to get her to come to court. Shortly afterwards, she withdrew the application for the restraining order.

Prosecutor: Very, very tragic

The prosecutor does not know the reason why she backed down.

– Unfortunately, this phenomenon is not entirely unusual. But a lot of measures were taken to get the woman to participate. More than you are used to and definitely more than you are required to do by law, says Adolf Moberg Oleszkiewicz.

The court therefore chose to release the man from custody on December 6. He had then stated that he was going home to a relative and not to the woman.

A few days before Christmas Eve, the prosecutor contacted the district court and asked them to schedule a new trial date. The woman was found dead on Friday.

– This is a very, very tragic case, says Adolf Moberg Oleszkiewicz.

Had filed for divorce

The man in his 50s has previously been convicted of violent crimes and, among other things, has been banned from contacting another woman. He has served prison terms and has 16 offenses on his criminal record.

In connection with the crimes in October, the man underwent a personal investigation. In it, the assessment was made that he has “an aggression problem and a high propensity for violence.” The risk of recidivism and “similar crime” was considered high.

Earlier this fall, the woman filed for divorce. In the submitted documents, it appears that she did not want any reflection time as they have no joint children or other minors in the household. The district court, however, decided on a reflection period of six months, from the documents to judge as the husband did not want to divorce.

TV4 Nyheterna has sought the plaintiff’s counsel that the woman received in connection with the latest police report.
