The witness after the shooting in Gottsunda: “Heard children crying”

It was around 5.30 pm on Midsummer Eve that several shots were fired near the center of Gottsunda. Several people were moving in the area and had to flee the scene.

– I heard several shots being fired and people came running from the scene and I heard children crying, says Sükran Akan, who lives nearby, and who UNT also spoke to.

“Being shocked”

She talked to passers-by who panicked told them what had happened. When she heard that a bus had been hit by gunfire, she ran there to help.

– Fortunately, no one was injured on the bus. But then I got to see the injured boy who had been hit in the leg. You are shocked, says Sükran Akan, who has two children himself.

– I have lived in Gottsunda for a long time and it is terrible to see that innocent people are affected. It is not the first time automatic weapons have been fired in the area, she says, referring to a shooting in 2019 when a car was hit by 30 bullets.

The witness: People ran in panic

Another person SVT spoke to, who wishes to remain anonymous, states that he was near the crime scene.

– There was panic everywhere at the roundabout outside the center of Gottsunda. People ran home or sought shelter. I ran away to the church. When it had calmed down, I went back and saw the young guy lying on the ground with a lot of people around him, he says.

A video from inside the bus shows multiple bullet holes and shattered windows. According to information from Region Uppsala, the driver should be fine under the circumstances.

Police: Danger to others

The police are investigating attempted murder, aggravated weapons offenses and causing danger to others and have also been present in Gottsunda during Midsummer Day. No one is arrested.

The police state that they want to get in touch with people who may have seen movement patterns that stand out in the vicinity of the shooting.

The boy is the only one hit during the shooting. During Saturday, there was no new information on the state of the damage.
