The Witcher season 3 made 2 stars cry in pain

Season 3 of The Witcher featured numerous sword fights, monster attacks and magical duels. But one of the biggest challenges took place behind the scenes of the Netflix series. An extraordinary filming location brought the stars, especially Anya Chalotra and Freya Allan real physical danger and pain to their limits.

Netflix’s Season 3 made two The Witcher stars cry

While we eagerly await the upcoming season 4 of The Witcher, which will have to do without Henry Cavill, it’s worth taking a look back at the deprivation-ridden season 3 while we wait. It began with the trio of Geralt (Henry Cavill), Yennefer (Anya Chalotra) and Ciri (Freya Allan) in a secluded hideout in the wilderness. These scenes were filmed on the border between Italy and Slovenia. Whereby the glacier lake and the snowy landscape with its extreme temperatures was real – which had consequences.

Looking back, Yennefer actress Anya Chalotra remembered the visually beautiful location, which required some physical sacrifices for The Witcher:

We were shooting in Slovenia. It was very cold. And I remember on the second day of shooting cried my eyes out because I couldn’t feel my feet anymore. That was the beginning of my journey in this one [3.] Squadron.

Yana Chalotra’s co-star Freya Allan went through something very similar as foster daughter Ciri, and confirms The Witcher magician’s testimony about Netflix filming:

I also remember crying my eyes out and thinking, ‘This is just too much.’

Many mountaineers who have lost toes or whole feet in this way can confirm that the danger to parts of the body with poor circulation that are exposed to sub-zero temperatures over long periods of time should not be underestimated. Despite her suffering for The Witcher and this one “perhaps greatest challenge” there was a remedy for Chalotra in the end: I cursed a lot. And I had to stay in the tent and warm my feet.”

When does The Witcher season 4 start on Netflix?

A concrete start date for the 4th season of The Witcher has not yet been set. Since filming won’t start until 2024, we should 2025 expect Netflix’s fantasy series to return. Before that, however, we can expect a prequel miniseries on the gang of rats and the second anime The Witcher: Sirens of the Deep. Ciri actress Freya Allan already knows she’s about to have a scary scene in season 4.
