The Witcher 4 confirmed by CD Projekt Red running Unreal

While CD Projekt Red is barely recovering from its injuries caused by Cyberpunk 2077 and its catastrophic launch, the Polish studio formalizes the development of the new episode of The Witcher, which will be called The Witcher 4 for the moment. It’s nothing surprising, its existence had already been mentioned during financial reviews and interventions to reassure investors in the midst of the Cyberpunk 2077 bad buzz, but it’s now official. It is all the more so since CD Projekt Red has also unveiled a first artwork where we can see Geralt’s pendant being covered in snow. Obviously, for now, little information has been revealed, we just know that it is the Unreal Engine 5 that will be used to run the game. This is a real evolution for the studio which was working until ‘then on a proprietary engine, the REDengine, and which marks a collaboration with Epic Games.

It’s an exciting time as we transition from REDengine to Unreal Engine 5, beginning a multi-year strategic partnership with Epic Games. It not only covers licensing, but also the technical development of Unreal Engine 5, as well as potential future versions of Unreal Engine, if any. We will be working closely with the developers at Epic Games, with the main goal being to help adapt the engine to open-world experiences.

This fourth episode seems to indicate that we are starting on a whole new story (“A new saga begins”) and it is not forbidden that its adaptation in series on Netflix could have an influence on the game. We theorize, but count- given the success of the series, thanks to video games and vice versa, it wouldn’t be a joke for bridges to be built between the two mediums. In the meantime, we hope that CD Projekt Red has learned lessons from Cyberpunk 2077 and that lying demos will not be part of the promotional campaign for this Witcher 4.
