The winner of the Nobel Peace Prize will be announced

At the forefront of speculation are Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyi, Russian opposition leader Aleksei Navalnyi and Uyghur activist Ilham Tohti.

The names of the recipient or recipients of the Nobel Peace Prize will be announced today at 12 o’clock Finnish time in Oslo.

The favorite of betting statistics has been the president of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyibut according to experts, rewarding the leader of a country at war is highly unlikely.

A Russian imprisoned opposition activist has also been at the forefront of speculation Alexei Navalyi and women’s rights defenders in Iran and Afghanistan.

An economist from the Uyghur minority sentenced to life imprisonment for separatism in China Ilham Tohti is also, as in previous years, a strong candidate for the new Nobel Peace Prize.

Among the organizations, the peace prize has been presented to, among others, the International Court of Justice and the International Criminal Court, ICC.

Voices have also been heard, according to which the peace prize could be completely left undistributed in the midst of the current exceptionally warlike time. The last time this was done was during the Vietnam War in 1972.

Last year, the peace prize was divided into three parts, when it was received by the Ukrainian human rights organization Center for Civil Liberties together with a Belarusian human rights activist Ales Byalyatsky and with the Russian human rights organization Memorial.

Also the other year, the peace prize went partly in the same direction, when it was awarded by a Russian journalist Dmitry Muratov and a Filipino reporter Maria Ressa.
