Who has never cursed in front of a PC keyboard trying to type accented capital letters like É, È, À, Ô, Û or Ê? A real headache. In perpetual evolution, this set of free tools from Microsoft welcomes in its latest version a function called Quick Accent (Quick Accent in English). Very practical, it makes it very easy to choose the accented letter of your choice by clicking on it.

How do I type accented capitals with the PowerToys Accent Quick?

PowerToys’ wide array of free tools continues to grow. New in the latest release is the Quick Accent feature that makes getting the accented letter of your choice almost as easy as on macOS.

► Download the Microsoft PowerToys then install them. If you are offered an update, accept it to take advantage of the latest version that includes the Accent Rapide tool. When the window opens, click fast accent in the left column.

► In the page that appears, click on Open settings.

► Flip the switch to Enable. Several options are then displayed. To section Activate, you can set the shortcut key to assign to the function. Choose for example Space.

► Now open Windows Notepad to try it out. Press the button to caps lock of your keyboard. Press and hold the accented key you want to enter, for example the HAS then press the spacebar on the keyboard once. At the top of the screen is the enhancement options. Press on the space bar to highlight the one you want to use or click on it.

► Go back to Quick Accent settings in PowerToys. Here you can choose where the emphasis suggestions should appear or define the delay before the emphasis bar is displayed on the screen.
