While the Russia-Ukraine war continues with all its violence, the possibility of nuclear disaster is worrying the whole world. While it is known that there are many facilities in Ukraine, it is unsettling that conflicts occasionally spread to those regions. As the war continued on its 17th day, new allegations were made about the ‘nuclear disaster’. Statements made on the activities of nuclear facilities and biological laboratories in the Russia-Ukraine war, “Will a Chernobyl-like disaster happen again?” started the discussion.
STATEMENT TAKING ATTENTION FROM RUSSIA
Russia announced that the American has 30 different biological laboratories in Ukraine. He claimed that “traces of pathogens of plague, anthrax, brucellosis, diphtheria, salmonellosis and dysentery were found” in the centers hit in the cities of Lviv, Kharkov and Poltava. U.S. Under-Secretary of State Victoria Nuland confirmed the existence of these facilities but did not give numbers. According to reports, the USA has 336 military biology laboratories in 30 countries. 26 of these facilities are in Ukraine and all of them are managed by the Pentagon. The US administration described the alleged use of the aforementioned laboratories for chemical weapons purposes as Russia’s disinformation.
“THE POSSIBILITY OF LOCAL CHEMICAL ATTACK”
According to the news in the Turkiye Newspaper, Southern Ukraine University Faculty Member Oleksandr Sereda stated that the US-based biological laboratories operating in Ukraine carry out virus-based research with official permission. Pointing out that these studies are carried out in many countries, Sereda said, “No country allows a biological activity that poses a biological threat to its own country or the environment. Moscow administration is trying to produce address-responsibility confusion in case of a possible attack. “Although not on a large scale, the possibility of a local chemical attack is strong,” he said.
Seven days ago, on Wednesday, Zaporizhia-Energom stated that a nuclear facility building was hit in Kharkov, and Sereda warned that “Nuclear disaster is at hand”.
“DISASTER” WARNING
Orkun Aytek, President of the Nuclear Business Union, warned that the possible use of chemical or biological weapons in Ukraine, where five nuclear facilities, four of which are still active, will lead to a global disaster. Aytek shared the following information:
At this point, it seems that it will be very difficult to determine the responsible person in any chemical use or nuclear disaster. Since Russia saw this danger, it first turned to nuclear facilities. He wanted to protect it. However, the United States may see a nuclear incident far from home and outside its sphere of influence as an element of political gain. In such a case, Russia would be declared a war criminal and calculated the price it would pay before anyone else. Currently, nuclear facilities in Ukraine have four to seven layers of protection against threats such as bombardment. It is necessary to pay attention to sabotage attempts that can be made from within rather than external threats.
According to Aytek, if this scenario is real, although the peoples of the region will pay a heavy price, a possible nuclear attack will have political rather than military consequences.
Orkun Aytek also pointed out that the radiation fallout that remained under the ground after the Chernobyl disaster due to the ongoing bombardments may come to light again, and that this may cause a new disaster.
