Electricity shortage continues in Cuba. Millions of people were left without electricity due to a malfunction that occurred around 02:00 local time at Antonio Guiteras, one of the largest power plants in the country, located in Matanzas. While the government closed schools, it called on those who did not work in official jobs to stay at home until the electricity was restored.
“WE ARE PROGRESSING STEP BY STEP”
Cuban Energy Minister Vicente de la O’Levy stated that when the Antonio Guiteras Power Plant failed, some other large power plants were also under maintenance, leaving the grid without electricity. Stating that the Antonio Guiteras Power Plant is expected to be fully operational by tomorrow, O’Levy announced that priority was given to supply electricity to hospitals and water pumping facilities. “We have very talented experts and they are all involved,” O’Levy said. “We are progressing step by step,” he said.
THE ELECTRIC GRID IS CRASHED!
The floating power plant from Turkey provides electricity to hospitals and part of the city. Officials said that the floating power plant coming from Turkey produces electricity off the coast of the capital Havana and provides electricity to hospitals and part of the city.
Cuba’s power grid has almost completely collapsed due to fuel shortages, natural disasters and economic crisis. Power plants went into crisis this year as oil imports from Venezuela, Russia and Mexico declined, resulting in multiple power outages across the country for two months.
