Early on Tuesday morning, the residents of an apartment building in Ekholmen in Linköping woke up to a powerful explosion. Parts of the facade have been torn away, one person has been taken to hospital and 18 apartments have been evacuated.
— Those who have had their apartment destroyed should first of all turn to their home insurance. The municipality has no empty accommodation in case something happens. It usually works out. Unfortunately, we have been involved in this before, says Anders Fernemark, head of security at Linköping Municipality.
Various resource groups have been brought in to support and help in Ekholmen. Groups such as Sociala jouren, FRG (voluntary resource group) and area teams move in the area to meet the worried and affected. Guards help distribute traffic around the area.
— Ekholmen is not normally a law enforcement area. Areas where security guards are allowed to stay now have extra control over how things are going on in other places in Linköping, so we have our eyes out in other directions as well, he says.
That Linköping has again been hit by acts of violence is terrible, says Fernemark.
— We have to face this, the whole society and I think we are doing that in a good way, but it is terrible that they are destroyed for so many others.
