On September 1, 2023, the fantasy series will be on Amazon Prime * after a two-year break The Wheel of Time returned. After season 1 received mixed reviews, season 2 of The Wheel of Time received a lot of positive feedback. Only one actress was initially not at all satisfied with the unexpected development of her character.
“Problematic” decision: Rosamund Pike had concerns before the second season of The Wheel of Time
Amazon’s fantasy series The Wheel of Time follows the rise of the “Dragon Reborn” Rand (Josha Stradowski), who wields enormous power in a world where men are forbidden from practicing magic. The Aes Sedai Moiraine (Rosamund Pike) plays a key role in discovering his fate. But in the fight against the enemy (Fares Fares) Moiraine lost her magical abilities at the end of Season 1. What a drastic change to the book templates * by Robert Jordan showed where this did not happen.

The Wheel of Time: A powerless Moiraine (Rosamund Pike) in Season 2
Rosamund Pike (Gone Girl) was by far the most famous actress in the cast of The Wheel of Time in season 1. In an interview she gave before the acting strike began, she joked about hers initial anger towards the transformed Moiraine:
I didn’t sign up for that. One of the elements that drew me to the series was the development of a physical language of channeling. I wanted the elements of the universe [durch meine Bewegungen] interpret. So the idea of cutting Moiraine out of it was problematic for me.
Cut off from the “True Source” of magic, Moiraine still defines herself as Rand’s protector in season 2 of The Wheel of Time, but has to find herself again. Rosamund Pike has now accepted this character development and has made it her own. Just like her guardian Lan, whose actor Daniel Henney saw the new fantasy direction as an opportunity: “It’s terrifying […] But to be honest, it was also a lot of fun to try something different.”
Moiraine’s change and the second season of The Wheel of Time are well received
The concern that fans could react negatively to the book changes does not seem to be confirmed: The second season of The Wheel of Time is currently underway
82% positive audience feedback on Rotten Tomatoes, while Season 1 only got 60%. The fantasy return was very satisfying.
The last three episodes of season 2 will show whether Moiraine’s loss of power is permanent. The fantasy series The Wheel of Time is currently running weekly on Amazon. Episode 6 starts on September 22, 2023 on Prime. The season finale (episode 8) will be released on October 5, 2023.
