Meta continues to integrate new functions into WhatsApp, making it much more than instant messaging. It thus introduced voice chat within groups, channels as news channels and screen sharing during video calls. She is also working on adding audio sharing, in order to make messaging more versatile and more collaborative, for both recreational and professional purposes (see our article). But if it greatly transforms its mobile application, the company does not forget the desktop version of WhatsApp. The specialized site WABetaInfo spotted, in beta version 2.2401.0.0. of the application for Windows – available through the official beta channel on the Microsoft Store – a new feature in development, allowing you to control input and output devices from the application settings. An important step to make WhatsApp a more versatile platform, able to compete with videoconferencing tools, such as Zoom or Teams.
WhatsApp on Windows: Better audio and video calls
This new feature allows us to adjust and select the camera, microphone and speaker configurations of our choice directly in the WhatsApp application for Windows, allowing us to choose between built-in and external devices. This avoids having to open the system settings to configure input and output devices for WhatsApp, as is currently the case, which can be complicated and wastes valuable time. This new level of customization ensures that one can use high-quality peripherals according to their preferences and needs. This improves audio and video quality, as you can choose microphones and speakers that provide clearer sound, and cameras that provide clearer video, resulting in better overall call quality. .
The input and output device control feature is available for beta testers who have installed the latest WhatsApp Beta for Windows update released on the Microsoft Store. It is expected to roll out to more users over the coming days.
