Rijkswaterstaat then makes water available from the Amsterdam-Rhine Canal and the Lek, which the De Stichtse Rijnlanden water board in Utrecht transports to the western Netherlands via a whole system of weirs and pumping stations. In this way, the salinization of the Hollandsche IJssel in particular, which runs from Nieuwegein to Nieuwerkerk aan den IJssel, must be counteracted. The KWA has been on since July 12.
