The water war at the accommodation in Uppsala went viral

You can never be too old to play – or be famous.
Gunnar, 93, Gunilla, 82, and Lennart, 79, are proof of that.
All because of one water war at the residence in Uppsala, which has been seen by several millions worldwide.
– We will start charging for our autographs, says Lennart Blom.

At the Attendo Råbyvägen retirement home in Uppsala, the residents state that they are never bored. If they don’t go on bus excursions, training, dancing or coffee are on the schedule.

– My children sometimes think about when they can come and visit because they think I’m busy all the time, says Gunilla Anundsson, 82.

In the scorching heat last week, the staff at Attendo Råbyvägen chose to go an extra step when they cooled off the residents – with a water war.

– I had a birthday that day. It was the absolute best birthday present I could have received. It was so funny and everyone laughed, says Gunilla

Became a viral success

It was appreciated not only by everyone who attended, but also by many on social media. More than six million have seen the video of the water war on Instagram and over one million on Facebook.

After the viral success, they have now started calling themselves “celebrities”.

– We will start charging for our autographs, says Lennart Blom, 79.

– And interviews, adds Gunilla.

The video, which has been seen worldwide, has also had old acquaintances get in touch.

– I have a pen pal in New Zealand and we haven’t been in contact for a very long time. But now I got a text from her in which she wrote that it was fun to see that I’m still alive. So now we’re going to get in touch with each other again, says Gunilla.

– I have acquaintances from Sri Lanka who got in touch after they saw this. It’s fun, says Lennart.

“You’re never too old to play”

Now 93-year-old Gunnar wants more nursing homes to follow suit.

– We wish everyone could participate in this. It can’t be so much fun to sit as a pensioner and do nothing but ponder over medicines and stuff, he says and concludes:

– You can never be too old to play.

Tomorrow, Wednesday, they have a new activity to look forward to – then they will be celebrating Piña colada day.
