The War Within had a bug that was so popular that it is now a feature

In World of Warcraft: The War Within there was a bug for collectors. But the bug was so great that now everyone is demanding: Make it a feature! Blizzard obeys.

A beta test is intended to find errors and try out mechanics. But some bugs turn out to be so great that the community subsequently demands: Please make this a feature. That’s exactly what happened with WoW: The War Within. A bug made it much easier to collect transmog items and this is now retrospectively becoming a feature.

What kind of mistake was that? The Warband feature was already extensively tested during the beta of The War Within. One thing that was different at times: When you completed a quest, you unlocked all the transmog templates that this quest could ever grant – even with other classes. For example, as a mage you could also unlock two-handed axes. Completing the quest once ensured that all the rewards ended up in the template collection.

The bug was so popular that the community assumed it would be a feature.

However, Blizzard explained a few days ago that this was a mistake (via blizzard.com). Quests were supposed to unlock multiple transmog rewards, but only those that you could choose from when completing the quest.

The disappointment was accordingly great. Of course, because the previous rule means that you have to complete each quest up to 8 times with different classes in order to really unlock everything. That clearly stands in the way of the idea of account-wide progress.

Blizzard turns the bug into a feature: In the official WoW forum, Blizzard has now taken the feedback to heart and declared: The former bug will become a feature.

Following the introduction of the Warband, we’ve been listening to a lot of discussion and receiving a lot of feedback from transmog collectors. We wanted to let you know that we’re currently working on some improvements to template collecting that are planned for the next patch after the release of The War Within. […]

We are working on the much-discussed update that will allow all templates of non-cosmetic item rewards to be unlocked when quests are completed, regardless of whether your class could see or select those rewards. We plan to have this be retroactive, so any quests you have completed in the past should grant all of the corresponding templates when you first log in after the patch. The intent is to remove the need to complete these quests multiple times with different classes to get all of the templates they can grant.

In the future, you will also be able to unlock tier sets for classes in old raids that you are not actively playing. This was already possible for some raids using account-bound set tokens, but some raids drop the equipment directly – and that required you to be present with the correct class.

When will this feature be released? Blizzard has already revealed that the feature will appear with the first patch after the release of The War Within, i.e. with patch 11.0.5. Work is already underway on this patch, as the update has already been deployed to the test realms and should be activated in the next few days. This also makes it clear what will happen after the release of The War Within.
