The Walking Dead returns to the cruelest place of the zombie apocalypse – but one mistake is really annoying

The Walking Dead returns to the cruelest place of the

In just two weeks, the second-largest The Walking Dead series on Amazon Prime Video * is about to say goodbye: Fear the Walking Dead ends after eight seasons and 113 episodes. Before the finale, the series offshoot returns to one of the worst places in the zombie universe – and wastes the chance for a real crossover with The Walking Dead.

Warning, spoilers for Fear the Walking Dead:

Fear the Walking Dead Season 8 pays a visit to the Sanctuary

Following the departure of Morgan Jones, Dwight (Austin Amelio) and Sherry (Christine Evangelista) are the last remaining crossover characters in Fear the Walking Dead. In episode 9 of the eighth season, they now have to face their greatest trauma, which has tormented them for many years. The couple goes back to the sanctuarywhere they once suffered under the rule of Savior leader Negan.

Unfortunately, the nostalgic return to the Saviors’ former hideout highlights a major problem with season 8. Since several characters can travel to the Sanctuary in just one episode, it seems this important The Walking Dead location not far away from the locations surrounding the conflict between Madison Clark (Kim Dickens) and Troy Otto (Daniel Sharman). And Alexandria isn’t far either.

Dwight and Sherry back at the Sanctuary

For a long time, Fear the Walking Dead kept a long distance from the parent series. California, Mexico and later Texas were far removed from the events surrounding Rick Grimes and his allies. However, that changed with season 8, which is now set on the east coast of the USA and has surprised twice now by returning to an iconic location from The Walking Dead.

Seeing the Sanctuary again makes it clear that we are in close proximity to Alexandria, one of the most important locations from The Walking Dead. A collision of the narrative worlds of the parent series and spin-off has never been as close as it is now. But Fear the Walking Dead doesn’t seem interested in that at all, opening a gaping plot hole.

Fear the Walking Dead forgets that Alexandria exists

Shortly before the finale, the community of PADRE faces a devastating attack by the villain Troy Otto, who has returned from the dead. The characters are desperately looking for support in order to be able to protect PADRE and the children who live there.

Thanks to Morgan Jones, most of the characters in the spin-off know about the existence of the Alexandra Safe Zone. So why shouldn’t anyone take a trip there and ask for help? Of course, Dwight may not be the most welcome guest in Alexandria. However, almost 10 years have passed since his banishment by Daryl.

Fortunately, the last word has not yet been spoken. Maybe Fear the Walking Dead will save the big crossover surprise for the series finale. One possibility: A few episodes earlier, Morgan Jones (Lennie James) left the series to return to Alexandria and find Rick Grimes. In the finale, he and his former allies could appear as a last-second savior to save PADRE from ruin.
