The Walking Dead began 13 years ago when police officer Rick Grimes woke up in the zombie apocalypse and met survivor Morgan Jones (Lennie James) and his son Duane. Morgan struggled with his wife becoming undead and unable to redeem her.
Now, in the final season of Fear the Walking Dead (on Amazon Prime Video*), the franchise takes up that conflict again. In episode 4 of season 8, Morgan Jones makes a surprise return home. He follows King County, where he and Rick Grimes once lived. We finally learn what really happened to his son.
Warning, spoilers follow:
Fear the Walking Dead season 8 finally settles the question: what really happened to Morgan’s son Duane?
More than 10 years have passed in the series plot, since Morgan didn’t have the heart to redeem his zombified wife Jenny and that decision resulted in the death of his son Duane. Now he is ready to move on from this trauma and bury his son.

Morgan is back home
Fear the Walking Dead also solves a mystery that has occupied fans for 10 years. After appearing in the pilot, Morgan Jones didn’t return until Season 3. Subsequently faces of the dead he seemed to have lost his mind and finally told Rick about the loss of his son.
Father and son returned home shortly after their meetings with Rick Grimes to get supplies. In the process, however, Duane was attacked by his undead mother. Morgan pulled the trigger too late. His son was already bitten and died shortly thereafter. However, The Walking Dead never told us what happened to Duane after he became undead.
Morgan himself has forgotten it over the years. Now we get the sad answer. During his delusional phase, Morgan chained his undead son to a pillar in the attic of his home, where he remained for almost a decade. In the new episode of Fear the Walking Dead, Morgan faces the same choice he made when his foster daughter Mo (Zoey Merchant) was attacked by Duane. But this time he doesn’t hesitate and shoots his son in the head.
More The Walking Dead Easter Eggs to come:

In the end, Morgan can bury his son and finally close this traumatic chapter in his life. But there is no happy ending for him. The episode ends with his partner Grace (Karen David) being bitten by an undead.
