The Walking Dead is going where the series has never been before in Daryl Dixon Season 2 – but there’s a big lie behind it

The Walking Dead is going where the series has never

The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon started in season 2 and shows once again in episode 2 that the spin-off is looking for new paths. This not only concerns Daryl’s first kiss in 14 years of series history, but also the exploration of the post-apocalyptic world beyond the borders of the USA.

Since season 1, the new TWD series has shown us for the first time in detail how the zombie apocalypse has affected mainland Europe with Daryl’s involuntary deportation to France. But that’s not enough for the second season called The Book of Carol: Now we’re traveling to a completely new place again… but it’s not what it claims to be.

The Walking Dead travels to Denmark for the first time in Daryl Dixon Season 2

While Daryl Dixon (Norman Reedus) has decided to stay in France for the time being to look after the special boy Laurent (Louis Puech Scigliuzzi) with Isabelle (Clémence Poésy), Carol (Melissa McBride) goes on a search in season 2 after her best friend. To do this, however, she has to cross an ocean and therefore teams up with the plane owner Ash Patel (Manish Dayal). On her way east the little one gets lost propeller machine The two of them have to have gas and stuff like that stopover in Greenland.

Seeing such vast areas and empty landscapes has been very unusual in The Walking Dead so far. After all, the survivors usually needed a piece of civilization in order to loot dilapidated supermarkets or build their own base with enough building materials. The fact that in the open expanse of Greenland one must at least quickly notice the threat of the undead shuffling towards them also proves to be a misjudgment. Because as soon as Carol takes a few steps, she dives
mummified bog zombies from the meadow under their feet.

Greenland, which is a huge land mass that belongs to Denmark, gives The Walking Dead staff anything but a friendly welcome. Especially since the people who appear shortly afterwards have no good in mind for Carol and Ash, despite their initial friendliness. But the deception goes further in the series, as Daryl Dixon was not filmed in Greenland at all.

Clever The Walking Dead deception: Greenland is actually not Greenland at all

Because as The Walking Dead location manager Antek Graczyk reveals in a making-of at the end of the US episode, Daryl Dixon sells it to us French Alps than Greenland. This is not unusual when filming series and films, as long as the landscape or urban similarities are sufficient. For the production being made in France, it was certainly an advantage not to have to travel to another country with the entire film team.

The cast and crew already rave about the beautiful Alpine landscape in eastern France, where the series had to laboriously transport a plane. TWD: Daryl Dixon even changed the filming schedule for this, as Graczyk explains:

In between we thought about going to Greenland for the shoot. But we had several locations in the Pyrenees and the Alps that were similar to Greenland. Unfortunately we had to shoot in June and there was France still snow [in den Bergen]. So we had to do the shoot postpone until September.

Since very few people have ever vacationed in Greenland, hardly anyone will notice the difference in landscape compared to France’s Alps. And in the end it remains a novelty for The Walking Dead: Because within the series plot, Carol ends up in Greenland, where no TWD character has ever been.

The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon is currently showing a new episode of season 2 every week on Magenta TV. The next episode, episode 3, will be released on October 14, 2024.
