Warning, there are spoilers ahead for Season 2, Episode 2 of The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon.
Daryl Dixon (Norman Reedus) has been part of the zombie universe since The Walking Dead launched in 2010. He is currently in the second season of his own series The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon and is the most consistent member of the cast after 14 years. But that doesn’t mean the taciturn biker can’t still surprise, because now Daryl has his first kiss in France of TWD history completed. And it is received almost as controversially as a similar Lord of the Rings scene recently.
The Walking Dead surprise: Daryl Dixon kisses a nun
Season 2 of the Daryl Dixon series delivered a strong Walking Dead return last week on Magenta TV. In season 1, the protagonist, who was kidnapped to France, made his way to Paris alongside the nun Isabelle Carrière (Clémence Poésy) to help the boy Laurent (Louis Puech Scigliuzzi), who may have the solution to the zombie virus. Daryl decided against returning to the USA for the time being, which is why Carol (Melissa McBride) is now going to look for him by plane. But the new episode particularly surprised long-time fans with a kiss.

While the sun almost kisses the horizon in the picturesque background of Mont-Saint-Michel, Daryl, who has just escaped being murdered, and Isabelle plan at the end of episode 2 how they can free their protégé Laurent from the castle in the sea. And suddenly they look at each other, lean towards each other and meet in an unexpected lip lock. And then another.
The episode title Moulin Rouge should have given away the fact that things are going to get hot in episode 2 of Daryl Dixon’s second Walking Dead season. However, Daryl Dixon actor Norman Reedus warned EW against escalating romantic ideas after this scene.
I think, it was an experiment. It was a ‘What is that?’ and no ‘That’s it!’ […] What would that look and feel like? I don’t think there was any intention to take it to the next level. It was more about opening the curtain in fear and looking at the idea. “He doesn’t know what it means”: This is how Walking Dead fans react to Daryl’s kiss
Daryl Dixon’s long non-existent love life gave rise to much speculation about his (a)sexual orientation throughout the history of The Walking Dead. After a cautious crackdown between him and Connie (Lauren Ridloff), Daryl only had a tragic love story with Leah Shaw (Lynn Collins) in season 10, albeit without a kiss shown. Leah eventually became an antagonist in season 11 and died at Daryl’s hands. The Walking Dead spin-off now features Mr. Dixon a new option as Norman Reedus explains:
My interpretation of this is that he’s never been able to do that before and he doesn’t know what it means. He has run and fought all his life and now asks himself: What did I do wrong? Should I have found someone and retired to a farm? Should I have had these moments in life before I die? Or is constant struggle my way? He questions the bigger picture.
However, the Walking Dead fans see it differently and react surprised to angry on Daryl Dixon’s kiss twist:

I’m not happy about the kiss […]. It just further destroys Daryl’s character. Give him a real romance Or don’t even try. I’m tired. At least a few people are also happy that Daryl has discovered kissing:

After 14 years and 185 episodes, we finally see Daryl’s first kiss. Daryl initiates the kiss and then gets another helping. As his niece Judith told him: “Uncle Daryl, you deserves a happy ending too.”
