The quarrel between the Wagner Group and Vladimir Putin continues.
The group’s leader Yevgeny Prigozhin now claims that the Russian army tried to blow up the group – by placing mines around Bachmut.
– The explosives were intended for Wagner, he says in a statement.
Last month, the infamous Wagner Group announced that it had captured Bachmut after a year of fierce fighting in the Ukrainian city. The paramilitary group’s leader, Yevgeny Prigozhin, later stated on social media that the city had been handed over to the Russian army.
During the fighting, the Wagner group and the Russian leadership got into a big fight with each other. Prigozhin repeatedly threatened to withdraw his troops from the battlefield unless Vladimir Putin sent more weapons and ammunition.
Now the leader is making new accusations against the Kremlin. On social media, he claims that representatives of the Russian Ministry of Defense placed explosive devices and mines around the city – to prevent the group from leaving, reports Ukrainian Pravda.
“Destined for Wagner”
According to Prigozhin, hundreds of tank mines are to be placed at a dozen or so locations around Bachmut, which has stirred feelings in the Wagner Group.
– It was representatives of the Ministry of Defense who rigged the areas with explosives. When we asked why they did it, they pointed to their leaders, he said in a statement.
According to Prigozhin, an investigation has been set up to get to the bottom of the incident. He says at the same time that there are no doubts about the purpose of the mines.
– There was no need to put the equipment there to hold back the enemy forces, they were all behind the front lines. We can therefore assume that the explosives were intended for Wagner, he says.
According to Prigozhin, none of the Wagner group’s soldiers were injured by the mines.
