Frank Gastambide and Alban Lenoir are in the cast of Netflix’s latest French action film, “The Wages of Fear”, a remake of a great classic released in 1953.
Subscribers of Netflix can discover a new French action film this Friday. A remake of Wages of Feara cult film from the 1950s directed by Henri-Georges Clouzot, is available on the platform streaming. This is the fourth film adaptation of the novel of the same name, published in 1949 and written by Georges Arnaud.
The classic film, which starred Yves Montant and Charles Vanel, won the Palme d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival and the Golden Bear at the Berlin Film Festival. This time, it is Julien Leclerc who is working on directing, while the cast is made up of Franck Gastambide, Alban Lenoir, Ana Girardo and Sofiane Zermani (better known as Fianso).
And the filmmaker assured the Parisian that, despite the obvious title of the feature film, that it was “not a remake, but a new story”: “We had to keep the DNA, a team which will transport nitroglycerin to turn off a well, but anchor the new story in 2024 in an imaginary country. The characters and their relationships with each other also had to be of our time.”
What is the plot of the film The wages of fear ?
In the middle of the desert, a fire breaks out in an oil well. Faced with the threat this represents for the local population, the oil company must do everything to avoid disaster. She hires four mercenaries to transport two trucks loaded with nitroglycerin. Indeed, a pocket of gas under the well is fueling the fire and exploding it seems to be the only solution. The shock team has barely 24 hours to travel 800 km through a hostile environment.
