The village games in Dalarna continue to attract audiences

– It doesn’t just have to be football and hockey, it gives so much to children and young people to be here, says Mats Gyllevåg, chairman of the Troll Wedding Committee.

Audience records do not attract

During its heyday in the 1980s and early 90s, the Trollbröllopet could attract 1,800 paying guests in one evening. For many years now, the audience figure has been stable at around 2,000 paying people on the three evenings the play is performed in Äppelbo. Reaching new records is not something that attracts.

– We have no huge profit interest, we just want to be able to put a new roof on the homestead and give the actors something, says Mats Gyllevåg.

Dip became increase

The skinner game in Malung has grown in recent years. After a dip around 2009, the trend reversed, and the number of game days has been increased from two to three.

– It was because we saw an increased interest, so we have continued with that, says Erik Karlsson, Skinnarspelskommittien.

The sky game in Leksand, on the other hand, is lying fallow. But the goal for chairman Kurt Blomquist is to get back to Gropen, where the Himlaspelet took place for many years.

– We intend to set up the Sky Game again, he says.
