The verdict on the act of insanity at Oxbacken in Västerås is being appealed

Prosecutor Karolin Hellsberg has decided to appeal the verdict on the Oxbacken attacks.

– I want the Court of Appeal to review the sentence, there have been arguments for the man to be sentenced for attempted murder, she says.

Plaintiff’s counsel Caroline Fagerberg says that she and her clients will also appeal.

– My clients are very disappointed with the verdict. They are both upset that he was convicted of aggravated assault instead of attempted murder and that the sentence was not longer, says Caroline Fagerberg.

Serious assault or attempted murder

It is the four cases that came to be classified as serious assault that both the prosecutor and the victims of the attack want tried.

The fact that the man was not convicted of attempted murder also meant that the victims did not receive the compensation they demanded. Three of them have received approximately 100,000 less than they requested and one approximately 150,000 less.

– The violation compensation depends on the classification of the crime, and we believe that he should be sentenced for attempted murder, not aggravated assault, says Caroline Fagerberg.
