As usual, The Hockey News has analyzed every single NHL team in the smallest detail ahead of the upcoming season. And on the ranking list of the 50 best players in the series, as many as six Swedes take their place.
As the teams and players prepare for the upcoming NHL season, a host of experts give their verdict on how the season will play out. This competition year is no exception and now The Hockey News experts have released their predictions.
Six Swedes take their seats
The list you immediately jump over is the one where the best players in the NHL are ranked. In this year’s edition of The Hockey News tips, a total of six Swedes take their place on the list of the 50 best players in the series.
In 47th place we find the newly crowned Stanley Cup champion Gabriel Landeskog. Nine positions ahead, star center Mika Zibanejad moves into 38th place. A little surprising is the trio of Elias Lindholm, Filip Forsberg and Jacob Markström, who all take a higher place than the duo just mentioned and sail into 35th, 27th and 25th place respectively in that order.
Hedman best Swedish
But there is no doubt as to who is the best Swede in the NHL. It is of course Victor Hedman who has been one of the best defenders in the world in recent seasons. The Swede came close to winning his third straight Stanley Cup title a couple of months ago, but fell to the Colorado Avalanche in the finals.
The Swedish defenseman makes it to tenth place on the list of the NHL’s best players. In front of him, he has only two other backs, Cale Makar and Roman Josi.
Then it’s no big deal that Connor McDavid is the one named the league’s very best player.
