Dragon Age: The Veilguard is out and off to a good start on Steam. The reviews are mostly positive and highlight one point in the game in particular.
How did the launch go? On October 31, 2024 the time had finally come and Dragon Age: The Veilguard was released on PS5, Xbox Series X/S and PC. On Steam, the game already reached a peak of 70,000 simultaneous players in the evening (via steamdb.info)
While the reviews from the trade press have been known for a few days and are overall positive, users on Steam agree. Currently (as of November 1st, 2024) over 3,600 players have given their verdict and rated it with an average of 79%. That’s enough for “mostly positive” on Steam.
In numerous reviews, players describe their experiences with The Veilguard and praise one thing in particular.
Much praise for the combat system
What do the players write? Hardly a day has passed since the release, but users have already been able to spend a few hours in Thedas and describe their impressions.
One point that is repeatedly emphasized positively is the combat system. Compared to the first film Origins, it is much less tactical, but the action approach is well received by most people on Steam:
Is there only praise? No, there are also some critical voices mixed in with the positive ones. When it comes to the combat system, user Waldo finds that it is too action-heavy for him personally and that he hardly enjoys the fights.
Other points of criticism that are mentioned are weaknesses in the dialogue and characters. The fact that the game differs significantly from its predecessors, especially from Origins in terms of the feel of the game, is also criticized.
