The Veilguard is leaving BioWare and some opinion leaders are celebrating

There are two credible reports that Corinne Busch is leaving the BioWare studio. She was game director for the role-playing game Dragon Age: The Veilguard. Further rumors that EA wants to close the BioWare Edmonton studio seem to have no substance.

Where does the rumor come from? The rumor comes from an “anti-woken” YouTube channel. In this particular sub-scene of gaming, Dragon Age: The Veilguard has become a symbol of everything bad even before its release.

The YouTube channel reports that Corinne Busch is leaving BioWare and that EA plans to announce the studio’s closure at the next investor conference in February.

What’s behind the rumor? Renowned journalist Jeff Grubb reports, citing sources (via X):

  • Corinne Busch is actually leaving BioWare
  • But he doesn’t believe EA will close the studio – he’s been told there’s no truth to that part of the rumor
  • The Eurogamer site has now also confirmed that Busche will be leaving BioWare next week. Here too it is said: This is the only change at BioWare Edmonton. The studio will otherwise remain unchanged, contrary to rumors to the contrary.

Who is Corinne Busche? Busche had led the development of Dragon Age: The Veilguard from 2022 together with the creative director.

Before working on role-playing games, she was a designer at EA for 18 years, working on games like The Sims 3 and 4.

    Woker than you think

Why is there Dragon Age. Veilguard such a fuss? Dragon Age: The Veilguard has become part of the culture war in the USA for various reasons.

Even before the release, in September 2024, influencers were outraged that there was an option to display surgical scars in the chest area when creating characters. This allowed players to signal that their character had undergone gender reassignment surgery and had their breasts removed.

It was criticized that such “real-life ideas” had no place in a fantasy world. Surely this could all be done with magic.

When Dragon Age: The Veilguard was released, “overly woke” dialogues were criticized.

In addition to justified criticism of the game, especially from disappointed fans of earlier parts of the series, Dragon Age: The Veilguard came under constant fire from the very influencers who are now happily rejoicing over the new rumor. For them, the departure of Corinne Busch and the alleged closure of BioWare Edmonton is a reason to celebrate. But apparently only the first part of the message is true.

Jeff Grub and Eurogamer also only report on sources and apparently confidential conversations. They do not cite official sources, there is no reliable confirmation. In the MeinMMO test for Dragon Age: The Veilguard, the German translation with neo-pronouns was part of the criticism of the role-playing game: The latest Dragon Age in the test: The Veilguard is the ideal Dragon Age for everyone who doesn’t even know Dragon Age
