In Dragon Age: The Veilguard you face numerous opponents together with two other companions. If you feel too weak in the arguments, it could be because you are missing a practical function.
How do the fights work? In The Veilguard, before each quest, you choose two of the seven companions who will support you. Compared to its predecessors, that’s one less in your group.
In addition, you do not control the companions yourself in battle, but rather they act independently.
This meant that the combat system in the fourth branch of the series became a little more action-packed and less tactical. Although there is again a tactical break in which you can give orders to your companions, the system cannot keep up with the depth of Origins.
It’s still fun, especially as long as you keep the upper hand. If you feel too weak despite having strong equipment and skills, you should pay attention to an important function that the game does not directly explain to you.
All at once is supposed to be unfair?
What function is it about? When you pause the fight, you can unleash your own abilities on specific enemies and do the same on your companions.
Apart from that, your helpers automatically attack opponents and don’t necessarily focus on the one you have in view. But sometimes there are enemies that are particularly annoying. A distant magician, for example, who constantly shoots projectiles at you or buffs his allies. Such opponents should be put to death as quickly as possible, and the best way to do this is to join forces.
Unfortunately, your companions cannot read your thoughts, which is why you have to actively tell them which target they should attack – ideally the one you are already concentrating on.
To do this, pause and select the function “Both companions will attack this target” in the radial menu at the top center. This is self-explanatory, your companions follow the instructions.
Why is this important? On the one hand, more power is never a bad thing, but on the other hand, there are items and abilities in the game whose effects only trigger if you use this function. A particular build can benefit greatly from this. On MeinMMO you will find a strong warrior build and a deadly magician build.
By the way, you can also send just one of the two companions towards your target. The corresponding function is directly to the left or right of it.
If you use your companions cleverly in battle, the conflict will quickly come to an end and you will emerge triumphant. Did you already know the function and do you use it?
