The Våldsvågen in Sweden – this is how you talk to children about gang violence

– It is important that one does not transfer one’s own anxiety to the child, but rather asks questions, “what do you know about this?”, “what have you been thinking?”, says Karolina Jackson, counselor at Bris.

The authority for social protection and preparedness, MSB, has a page for adults called Krisinformation.se with social and crisis information. Now there is also a corresponding page for children, “Lilla krisinfo”, which MSB developed together with BRIS. It can be used as a basis for a conversation, says Marie Angsell, expert sociologist at Bris.

– There you collect important information aimed at children, information that can answer the questions children have and that has an appeal that we think children can understand.
