The US warns of attacks in Sweden: Avoid these places

Leksand extended the winning streak beat AIK

American authorities warn that there is a risk of a terrorist attack in Sweden.

On its website, the American embassy in Sweden writes that one should keep a low profile and avoid crowds. The embassy warns its citizens specifically that embassies, churches and other religious places in Sweden can become possible targets for terrorists.

The security police, Säpo, has been informed by the American authorities about their assessment of the new threat picture.

– The police naturally follow the development of events in the outside world and here in Sweden because we know that they can come and affect the security situation, says Adam Samara, spokesperson for the Security Police.

“Problematic development”

The British authorities came to a similar conclusion last week: that it is likely that someone will try to carry out an attack in Sweden.

– We can state that the events of the last few weeks, and I am thinking specifically of the burning of the Koran, the Erdogan doll and the reactions and protests that have followed, have led to a problematic development and it can in itself be threatening, says Adam Samara.

After the terrorist attack on Drottninggatan in 2017, when five people were killed, the terrorist threat level in Sweden was raised to 3 out of 5. It remains there today, but is continuously reassessed.
