The embassy urges US citizens not to enter Belarus and those citizens who are in the country should “leave immediately”.
Among other things, the Belarusian government’s continued support for Russia’s war of aggression in Ukraine is mentioned as a reason.
The embassy also cites: “The arbitrary enforcement of local laws, the risk of unrest, the risk of detention and the limited ability of the embassy to assist US citizens living in or traveling to Belarus“, as reasons why Americans should leave.
For the Americans traveling to Belarus, it is made clear that they cannot count on the assistance of the American authorities if needed – and that they should design a personal contingency plan.
