According to human rights activists working in Iran, at least 450 people have died in the protests and more than 18,000 have been arrested.
The flag of Iran was changed to its current form after the Islamic revolution in 1980. The symbol features four crescent moons with a sword in the middle. On the border of the green and red area is the text “God is great”.
Iran’s unrest has also been seen in the World Cup in Qatar. The country’s players remained silent during the national anthem in their first match against England.
