The US Senate voted down the aid package for Ukraine

Former US President Donald Trump has pressured Republicans to refuse any kind of compromise in the run-up to the presidential election.

The US Senate voted on Wednesday to repeal a $118 billion, or nearly €110 billion, aid package that would have sent aid to Ukraine and Israel and tightened the country’s immigration laws.

49 senators voted for the bill and 50 against.

It is believed that the Senate will vote later on the stripped 96 billion dollar package, which should only contain support for Ukraine and Israel.

Even if the proposal passes in the Senate, its progress in the Republican-led House of Representatives is uncertain.

In the Senate, four of the Republican members voted for the package and 45 voted against. Some of the Democrats felt that the border solution went too far, which is why six members voted against the package.

Trump pushed against the compromise

For months, members of the Republican Party had been demanding that the solution to the immigration issue be combined with the aid package. However, on Sunday, when the details of the package became public, the Republicans quickly scuttled it, even though the package had included several goals pushed by the party.

Former President of the United States Donald Trump has pressured Republicans to refuse any compromise in the run-up to the presidential election.

– They (Republicans) say that the time is wrong for solving the problem. Let the presidential election solve the problem, said the Oklahoma Republican senator who negotiated the package James Lankford.
