The former Fox News host has been confirmed by the US Senate Pete Hegseth’s appointment as the country’s defense minister.
The vote was tied 50-50, and the vice president JD Vance had to resolve the situation. The vice president acts as the president of the senate, so in his role he can decide the vote that ended in a tie.
Hegseth’s nomination was opposed by all Democratic and non-aligned senators and three Republicans. Senators from the Republican camp voted against the appointment Susan Collins, Lisa Murkowski and Mitch McConnell.
