The US knew that a Ukrainian special force was planning an attack on Nord Stream – three months before the explosion.
European intelligence got wind of the plans and shared information with the CIA, according to the Washington Post.
Joe Biden’s administration received intelligence about a detailed Ukrainian plan to carry out an attack on the Nord Stream pipelines – three months before the attack took place. It reports Washington Post.
The newspaper writes that the CIA received information about the plans in June last summer from a close ally. Information about the plan was picked up by European intelligence and shared with the CIA, according to the paper.
According to the plans that the US learned at the time, a team of six people from the Ukrainian special forces would carry out the attack. The newspaper draws attention to the fact that the plans may be the strongest evidence of who is behind the attack.
Great similarities with new German evidence
After the sabotage, there has been speculation as to who or who are behind the attack. Ukraine, Russia and the West have all been accused in various rounds.
Recently, several clues have pointed in the direction of Ukraine. Among other things, German investigators discovered that a company owned by Ukrainians rented out a boat suspected of having links to the explosions.
According to the Washington Post, the evidence is very similar to the plans that the CIA learned about.
The newspaper has reached out to officials from Ukraine, the White House and the CIA after its publication, but received no response.
