According to AP and AFP, the relatives of those who died in the Boeing plane crashes are furious about the Justice Ministry’s new settlement proposal and want the case to be taken to court.
The US Department of Justice presented a settlement on Sunday that would allow Boeing to avoid criminal charges.
The Ministry of Justice proposes that an independent quality and safety auditor be established for Boeing.
In addition, the Ministry of Justice’s settlement proposal imposes a fine on the company and requires that the company confess to the fraud charge.
Boeing must respond to the settlement terms within seven days. If Boeing does not respond, the matter will proceed to court.
A total of 346 people died in the crashes of the 2018–2019 Boeing 737 Max planes. Boeing was accused of misleading the aviation authorities who granted the type of aircraft permission to fly.
The company previously avoided prosecution by settling the matter with the Ministry of Justice.
In 2021, the US Department of Justice and Boeing agreed that the company will pay $2.5 billion in damages and increase safety controls.
In May, the Ministry of Justice said that Boeing had violated previous agreement.
