The budget is the main collateral damage of the absence of a government, because with ministers who have resigned and are only responsible for current affairs since July, the decisions have been delayed and Michel Barnierwho was only appointed on September 5, is even considering asking for a one-week delay to present the text to the National Assembly, reports Valerie Gas from RFI’s political service.
Discontent
A situation that has provoked the discontent of the LFI president of the Finance Committee, Éric Coquerel, who decided this Monday morning to brandish a warning in the form of a threat to Michel Barnier: that of going to Matignon in person to retrieve the famous “ceiling letters”. Documents that set the credits for each ministry and allow work on the government’s budgetary hypotheses and which should have already reached the parliamentarians.
Impact on the budget debate
Eric Coquerel particularly highlights his fear that this would have an impact on the budget debate. A pressure move that had an immediate effect, Matignon announced that these letters would be ” transmitted during the day ” in the National Assembly.
There is therefore an urgent need for Michel Barnier to form a government. This should take a few more days, with appointments not expected before the end of the week.
