The UN appeals to the outside world for urgent emergency aid to Turkey. The call is to give financial contributions of over ten billion kroner.

The World Organization states that support to around 5.2 million people directly affected in Turkey must be “rapidly scaled up in life-saving interventions”.

Aid organizations are trying to gather and coordinate efforts for the next phase of the earthquake disaster, the one that concerns health care, clean water and infrastructure for the approximately 27 million inhabitants directly or indirectly affected.

NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg visited the Turkish capital Ankara on Thursday. His message was that the military alliance is ready to help Turkey when Ankara asks.

– This is the deadliest national disaster on any NATO country’s territory since the alliance was created. We salute the courage of the Turkish aid workers and we mourn with you, Jens Stoltenberg said during the visit.
