But now comes the big twist before the mini-tour at the World Cup.
Star skaters Frida Karlsson and Maja Dahlqvist can be stopped completely.
Earlier this week, the Swedish squad for cross-country skiing’s big highlight this season was announced. Included in the squad for the prestigious Tour de Ski were both Frida Karlsson and Maja Dahlqvist – but now comes the twist.

An unknown threat has appeared against the radar pair’s participation in the mini-tour, which begins in Toblach, Italy, on December 30. Both have had problems in recent weeks and can now be stopped completely from the World Cup.

Neither Frida nor Maja has reached a normal level so far and therefore did not meet expectations. The duo has also dropped out of the high-altitude preparatory camp that the rest of the national skiing team will carry out in the days before the Tour de Ski, Expressen reports.

Now worries are growing for Karlsson and Dahlqvist and it is not at all certain that we will see them on the starting line in just over a week.
– I hope and believe it will be so. But there are question marks behind the two names, admits the national team manager Anders Byström for the evening paper.

Therefore, their places in the national team squad are not completely given and if one of the star skaters cannot make it to the start, the national skiing team must call in reserves instead.
– No, you can say that. There is a fire pit. If it doesn’t work for Maja during Christmas – then she won’t go to the Tour de Ski either. We don’t want to take any risks if she’s not 100 percent. But I think she will go. That she has time to get into phase, says Byström in the interview and the same applies to the reigning champion Frida.
– A bit like that. She will have to feel all the way up to departure whether it is time to go or not. But I know she definitely wants to go to the Tour de Ski.
