The United States warns Avdijivka slipping into Russian control

Avdijivka, located near Donetsk, has seen fierce fighting in recent months.

Ukraine is at a standstill on the eastern front.

– Avdijivka is in danger of falling under Russian control, said a spokesperson for the US National Security Council John Kirby at a press conference late Thursday.

According to the United States, the most important entrance to Avdijivka is under the control of the Russians, and the Ukrainian armed forces have announced that they will withdraw their forces.

Avdijivka, located near Donetsk, is a town with a small population, but it is considered to be of military importance due to its location and transport links.

The Ukrainian leadership has admitted that the situation is difficult.

– We will do everything to ensure that our fighters have enough leadership and technical capacity to save as many Ukrainian lives as possible, the country’s president Volodymyr Zelenskyi said on Thursday in his daily speech.

Ukrainian general Oleksandr Tarnavskyi described in his Telegram message that the situation around Avdijivka is “difficult but under control†.

– Fierce battles are taking place in the city, Tarnavskyi wrote on Thursday.

Running out of ammo

According to the United States, Ukraine is lost in Avdijika, because the troops lack the firepower needed to fight the Russian attack.

– Ukrainian forces are running out of artillery ammunition, Kirby said.

According to him, the lack of ammunition has enabled the Russian troops to advance towards the defense positions of Ukraine, which have now begun to be attacked.

– Russia is sending attack waves again and again towards Ukrainian stations, Kirby described the situation in Avdijika.

Russia has significantly larger armed forces than Ukraine and plenty of ammunition. In its defense battle, Kiev is dependent on the military support of the United States and other Western countries, which has weakened after the latest support package from the United States got stuck in the country’s Congress.

Secretary General of NATO Jens Stoltenberg said Thursday that the delay in U.S. support has already begun to show on the battlefield.

Professor of international politics at the University of Tampere Tuomas Forsberg estimated in ‘s morning that the US support for Ukraine has begun to falter, but it has not collapsed yet.

According to the professor, it has previously been observed that in the United States public opinion turns against military support in about a year and a half, if the support does not seem to produce the desired results.
