We live in a time when we are flooded with play, disinformation and heading -friendly statements.
Sometimes I just want to turn off everything. Just give me out on a ski trip and possibly return in a month and hope the world calmed down a little.
And we have to get a blind eye sometimes. Just forget the whole circus. Move out the cord.
But what happened last night we cannot hide.
We have to force ourselves to see. Look to the UN scraper and see the nightmare in the eyes. The most powerful state of the Western world, Sweden’s most important military allies, USA, The Land of the Free, voted with Russia, North Korea and Belarus in a vote in the UN General Assembly.
A vote that 93 countries (and all of Europe except Hungary) are behind and that would establish and condemn what we all know: that Russia was the one who started the illegal attack war against Ukraine. Most of the world’s dictatorships, including China, contented themselves with casting their votes.
Voted yes together with Russia
But Trump’s (acting) Ambassador Dorothy Camille Shea had received clear orders. Here it would be highlighted. Vote against the EU. Vote against Ukraine. Vote against a majority of the world’s countries. Vote against the truth.
A few hours later, the Trump administration chose to vote in the UN Security Council again with Russia and China into a resolution that blurred the previously obvious wording on criticism of Russia for its invasion of a neighboring country.
The United States chooses Sida
In the past, Donald Trump and his men have made plays, sent out comments on social media and delivered outcomes from speaker chairs. But here, for the first time, we have been black on white in a UN vote that the United States is choosing Russia, North Korea’s and Belarus’s side in the conflict around Ukraine.
This took place on the anniversary of Russia’s illegal giant invasion of a fragile democracy. February 24, 2025 risks enrolling in the history books which the day when the leading nation of the free world joined the part of the Moscow. It is a new time we hear more and more. But time we don’t have. Time for Europe’s democracies and the other world’s democratic forces to gather. Now.
