The U.S. military said Monday it had recovered valuable electronics from a suspected spy ball from a Chinese aircraft shot down by a U.S. fighter jet off the coast of South Carolina on February 4.
The electronics included, among other things, key sensors that were presumably used to collect intelligence information. This is reported by the Reuters news agency.
“The crew has succeeded in recovering significant debris from the scene, including all identified sensor and electronic components and large parts of the ball’s structure,” the US Army’s Northern Command said in a statement.
US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin commented Monday that the U.S. military has not yet collected the remains of the other three decommissioned objects. Unknown targets were shot down on Friday in Alaska, on Saturday in the Canadian Yukon and on Sunday in Lake Huron.
US authorities have not agreed to join the cases together.
Prime Minister of Canada Justin Trudeau on the other hand, said on Monday that there is some kind of connection between the four objects.
– Obviously, there is some kind of pattern here. The fact that we’ve seen a lot of this over the past week is attracting a lot of interest and close attention, says Trudeau.
