The UN General Assembly has approved a strongly designed resolution that condemns an offensive war in Ukraine on its third anniversary.
The resolution promises to commit to Ukraine’s self -determination, independence, unity and regional integrity.
The United States voted against the resolution. There was also Russia among those who voted.
The competing resolution issued by the United States did not receive support from members of the UN General Assembly. It required a quick end to the Ukrainian conflict, but did not mention the Ukrainian regional integrity. A Russian representative called the US presentation “in the right direction”.
In previous resolutions, the Ukrainian regional integrity has been a cornerstone. The previous president of the US Joe Biden was this strong supporter but the US line has changed Donald Trump Started with their presidential period.
The United States threatened to exercise its veto
Prior to the vote, the United States threatened to exercise its veto for all its own proposal for resolution, including those proposed by its European allies.

According to the authority, the focus of Trump’s administration was on Monday in the Security Council’s resolution, and not in the former UN General Assembly voting, which remembered the third anniversary of Russia’s major attack.
“The goal is to keep the resolution clear, simple and focus on what the president wants us to do, that is, to use the United Nations to achieve peace,” said the authority source.
Prior to the meeting, the AFP diplomatic source reported that four EU countries of the Security Council and Britain intend to present changes in the text to name Russia as an attacker and emphasize the regional integrity of Ukraine.
