Almost 1,500 people have been arrested in Turkey in demonstrations.
The United States has said that it is concerned about Turkey’s demonstrations and the arrests made there.
US Foreign Minister Marco Rubio and Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan met local time in Washington on Tuesday.
According to the US Foreign Ministry’s statement, Rubio expressed his concerns about recent arrests and demonstrations in Turkey. Foreign ministers also discussed cooperation in the field of security and trade at the meeting.
In Turkey, nearly 1,500 people have been arrested in demonstrations that began less than a week ago. The demonstrations have opposed the mayor of Istanbul Ekrem imamoğlu catching and imprisonment.
Imamoglu is suspected of corruption. Charges are deemed to be political as he is a self -ruling president Recep Tayyip Erdoğanin Political competitor.
Hundreds of thousands of people have been involved in protests, which have been the toughest in Turkey for over a decade.
Turkey’s Chief Opposite Party CHP has invited people to participate in a major demonstration in Istanbul on Saturday to oppose Imamoglu’s imprisonment. CHP has named Imamoglu as its presidential candidate.
