the United States crosses the fateful bar of 900000 dead

It is the most bereaved country in the world since the start of the pandemic. Despite the drop in cases after the Omicron wave, the daily death toll remains high.

A tragic figure. These are the words of the American president who says he shares the pain of those who have lost a loved one. 900,000 Americans have died since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic. Only a month and a half ago, there were 100,000 fewer deaths. But the Omicron variant has made many victims in very little time.

Today this wave seems to be falling, but despite the drop in contamination, the country still records more than 2,400 deaths per day.

Most vulnerable most affected

A quarter of these 900,000 deaths concern retirement homes. And according to the authorities, the vast majority of deaths recorded since the start of vaccination concern non-vaccinated people. The risks of complications and death in these cases are 14 times higher according to American experts.

Health authorities also deplore deaths parallel to Covid. This concerns people suffering from other illnesses or medical emergencies, but who have not been able to benefit from adequate care because the hospitals are full.

In his press release this Friday, Joe Biden once again called on Americans to get vaccinated or receive their 3rd dose.
